‘I had named the two vessels “The Margaron” and “The Troy Queen” in honour of Priness Margaret and our reigning monarch’ (DJ, quoted in Hague p. 170).

entranced: the entrance is the bow of the ship, or the form of of the fore-body under the water line. The implication is that the more elegant the design of the vessel entrance, the harder it will be to direct her steering (see the first two lines of the next page, where ‘scantlings’ refers to the small pieces of timber which form the entrance in the finer ship).
