additional notes

Marmor’s other flail: because Marmor (Mars) first had a flail as an agricultural god; Bellona was an ancient Roman goddess of war; left = straight left as in boxing; Thunderer = Iuppiter/Iove; dook = fist (Victorian fighting slang); Lysistrata (i.e. No. 1) is the play by Aristophanes in which the women of Greece force the men to abandon the war.
